Six Tasty Healing Smoothie Recipes From “The Blender Girl” Herself

Tess Masters, known as “The Blender Girl”, has whipped up some amazing healing smoothie recipes for us to enjoy. Let’s get started!

Years before she became the smoothie guru and author known as “The Blender Girl,” Tess Masters was a self-proclaimed “active kid who always wanted to take a nap—just so tired all the time.” She eventually discovered that her chronic fatigue was a result of Epstein-Barr—an energy-sucking autoimmune virus. After consulting a naturopath, who told her certain foods can exacerbate symptoms, she started to search for a healing diet. “I tried macrobiotics and raw food, dabbled in Ayurveda, you name it,” she says. “But it wasn’t until I embraced the concept of bioindividuality—the idea that one blanket diet won’t work for everyone—that I truly felt better.”

So Tess started cutting out foods, slowly adding them back in, and recording how she felt in a food diary (these tips can help make a food elimination diet easier). While she found that her needs varied at different times, one thing remained constant: She thrived on plant-based whole foods—and the easiest way to load up on those was with a smoothie. “Smoothies offer a fun accessible way to include healing foods like greens, herbs, and spices that might otherwise be unpalatable in large quantities,” she says. “Unless you’re a panda, no one can chomp on that many leaves in a day.”
